Why does my child sing but not talk?

When children recite ABC, count numbers, or sing songs, the main language function is to entertain themselves. They aren't saying these words for any other purpose. This means that these words will only be used in these contexts. The child simply does not know that words can be used to communicate.

Toddler Sings, Recites ABC and Counts Numbers But DOESN’T Talk

►► 5 Minute Activity to teach Communication instead of Hand Pulling→ https://www.agentsofspeech.com/handpulling

Language Function

When children recite ABC, count numbers, or sing songs, the main language function is to entertain themselves. They aren’t saying these words for any other purpose. This means that these words will only be used in these contexts. The child simply does not know that words can be used to communicate. Nor do they know that words can manipulate us to give them what they want. Instead, they would pull our hands and put our hands on something that they want. The missing link is the connection between words and action. That’s why we emphasize teaching gestures first. So that the child will get what s/he is asking for quickly. In their minds, language is for entertainment. Not for requesting, commenting, playing, or any other function. That’s the reason why they’re not talking to you.

Lack of Communication Intention

Children who show signs of autism, whether there is a diagnosis or not, have limited communication intention. Which means they do not want to talk to us. There isn’t a reason for them to communicate. Whilst professionals (therapists, doctors, teachers) would tell parents not to give in and make sure the child cannot get what s/he wants. That works to a certain extent, however, it would only work for limited contexts. What you need is to expand a child’s interests and have fun with your child. Exploring more toys, games, activities, and routines would help a lot.

Play and Language Goes Hand in Hand

Why play? When children are engaged in delayed echolalia (reciting songs), usually speaking there isn’t anything else to do. What do I mean? Children should be playing with toys and exploring the world. When a child doesn’t do these things, it usually means their play skills are relatively underdeveloped. That’s why they resort to thinking about videos and reciting ABCs. Whether it’s Autism or not, start teaching your child to play more. It will be beneficial either way. With the rise of “virtual autism” (not yet an official diagnosis at this moment in time), these symptoms might be reversible.

What organ do humans not use anymore?

The appendix The appendix may be the most commonly known useless organ. Many years ago, the appendix may have helped people digest plants that were rich in cellulose, Gizmodo reported. While plant-eating vertebrates still rely on their appendix to help process plants, the organ is not part of the human digestive system.

Some human body parts have become useless over the past few million years. Useless body parts include the appendix, the tail bone, and the muscle fibers that produce goose bumps. The appendix, for example, is not an essential body part (though some research suggests it may act as storage for good bacteria). In some cases, the appendix gets inflamed or ruptures, which requires surgical removal of the organ. Several other body parts used to be important for humans' survival, but they have since become useless. Some of them can be removed, and the absence of them does not lower people's quality of life. Business Insider spoke with Dorsa Amir, an evolutionary anthropologist at Boston College, to learn more about what she calls "evolutionary leftovers." Amir said that if a trait becomes no longer useful but remains harmless to humans, then it tags along for the evolutionary ride. Take a look at nine body parts that remained in the human body despite having no function for millions of years.
