Why do I sing better after crying?

"Crying on a note" is one of the easiest ways to improve the tone of your voice. It also helps to remove strain from your voice. And it has the magical "in-built" function of "blending" your vocal registers together. As well as all this, it helps communicate the emotion and message in the song you're singing too.

Why Crying Can Help Your Singing

All the best singers in the world do it.

They cry.

They cry when they sing.

Why do they do this?

Well, maybe they are sad, but there's a far more important reason.

"Crying on a note" is one of the easiest ways to improve the tone of your voice. It also helps to remove strain from your voice. And it has the magical "in-built" function of "blending" your vocal registers together. As well as all this, it helps communicate the emotion and message in the song you're singing too.

As you can see… "crying" is good for singing!

It is a hidden secret of singing that not many people know.

You can feel the difference that crying on pitch can make for yourself right now. Just take a song you know really well. Choose a specific line that you're particularly comfortable with. Now, while singing this line, pretend that you're crying. Pretend that you've just received heartbreaking news and you are communicating this feeling with your voice.

Really milk it.

Make your voice shake with sadness even.

Can you hear the difference?

Isn't it amazing?

Not only does your tone quality become richer, but singing feels easier as well! This "cry-like" tone is a technique that can really add a new dimension to your voice.

You don't need to use if for every note that you sing.

Just pick the passages in the song that really call for an extra shot of emotion. It might be the climatic high note that sends chills down your spine (hint-high notes become easier when you "cry" on them). Or maybe it's that part in the song where every thing goes quiet, and the audience lap up every note you sing. Another advantage of mastering this technique is it becomes invaluable on one of those "tough" days where your sound just isn't coming out as well as it should. On a bad vocal day, just cry your way through each song and enjoy the extra freedom and tone that it gives!

They are masters of "crying on pitch" and these are arguably two of the greatest singers that ever lived. So take the time to practice your crying! I promise that if you do, the rewards will be great. It will like having a button that says "richer tone quality" and you can press this button any time you like.

Let me give you a quick inside tip.

When you practice your crying, really overdo it. Even to the point where it sounds over-the-top. This will allow you to master the technique really quickly, so you can apply it to your performances straight away. You might think it's a bit ridiculous to overdo it in this way, but it's the quickest way to find the "sweet spot" where your crying sounds and feels the best.

So…

Play with this technique. Have fun with it. I guarantee that if you practice this "crying" technique for 10 minutes a day for the next week, your tone quality will make a dramatic improvement.

Enjoy, and keep singing!
