(ITV)

ITV is reportedly planning to launch a Love Island-style show for middle-aged contestants in their 40s and 50s. The new reality series is said to have the working title ‘Your Mum, My Dad’ and will feature contestants’ children trying to help their parents find romance. Reports of the mature romance show come after a number of Love Island fans called for the show to offer an older cast. According to The Sun, the show will be set in a retreat and filming is meant to start later this year. An insider explained to the publication: “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down. “This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime.” Gemma (left) is the youngest contestant to appear on this year’s show so far (ITV) The source also suggested that contestants in the proposed new show may offer something that the main Love Island series hasn’t achieved. They went on: “they know their minds, will be capable of intelligent conversation and are likely to be much more adventurous — all ingredients regular Love Island sometimes lacks.” A representative for ITV refused to confirm the news when approached by the Evening Standard for comment. The oldest contestants to appear in this year’s Love Island have been Jay Younger and Charlie Radnedge. Both are 28 years old and both have since been dumped from the Island. Meanwhile, the youngest contestant to appear this season is 19-year-old Gemma Owen. Her entry into the villa sparked numerous online conversations about whether there should be a minimum age to enter the villa, as the hashtags #shes19 and #getgemmaout started to trend. At the time, viewers also pointed out that the show has faced increased pressure in recent years about mental health support for contestants after leaving the show. Is there a camera crew in Love Island?

Speaking of filming, the singles may interact with production, but the same can't be said for the camera crew. "There are no cameramen visible to the Islanders unless one slips up and you see them in the bushes," Alexandra revealed. "There are cameras just posted around the villa, that's it."

Love Island fans are well aware what's about to go down when they hear, "This week, a hot new bombshell enters the villa..." but what about everything that happens when the Islanders are off-camera?

According to Love Island USA alum Alexandra Stewart, not much. The season one star dished on life in the villa in a pair of TikToks shared August 1 and 5, answering what she considered to be the most commonly-asked questions about being an Islander. First up, the phones. Every Islander has one, but they're not exactly useful for anything beyond receiving messages from production and other contestants (most of which result in someone yelling, "I've got a text!"). "All the phones have different dates and times on them," Alexandra shared. "No one knows unless you have a sundial and know how to read it." For those wondering why they can't simply keep track of the date and time? "You're in confinement for two weeks before you even go into the villa," Alexandra explained. "You could technically count, but no one is thinking that. You don't even know what's going on at that point."
