Cher has congratulated Kate Bush for breaking her record as the oldest woman to reach number one in the UK Official Singles Chart following the renewed success of song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). Kate's 1985 song has shot to the top of the charts after featuring in Netflix's Stranger Things, and at 63-years-old, Kate beat Cher's record of being the oldest female chart-topper as she was just 52 when 1998's Believe hit the top spot. Praise: Cher has congratulated Kate Bush for breaking her record as the oldest woman to reach number one in the UK Official Singles Chart amid the renewed success of song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) 37 years after it's initial release, Running Up That Hill has seen a surge in sales and streams thanks to the track being a soundtrack of character Max's fight for survival in the hit TV show. And as Kate bagged her first UK solo number one in 40 years, Cher proved there was no hard feelings over her record being broken.

Last week, Kate's song - the lead track on her Hounds Of Love album - peaked at number two behind Harry Style's As It Was, but on Friday it was revealed the 80s song had pipped the former One Direction star to the post. It is Kate's first time at number one since her debut single, Wuthering Heights, hit number one in 1978 when she was just 19. This means she has also bagged the record for longest gap between number one's at 44 years. Running Up That Hill is also currently sitting in the number one spot in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland, and has achieved a new peak in the US charts at number four.
