One of the biggest talking moments so far is the age of contestant Gemma Owen. Dressage rider Gemma, daughter of footballer Michael Owen, is a veritable foetus at the age of 19 – leaving some fans ‘uncomfortable’ when she shared a kiss with fellow islander Davide Sanclimenti, who is 27.

Surprisingly, Gemma is not the youngest contestant to have ever appeared on the ITV2 show. In the third season of Love Island, Casa Amor introduced the youngest-ever singleton, Amelia Peters at just 18 years old. Sadly, the teaching assistant failed to make an impression on any of the original boys, despite sharing a bed with Kem Cetinay, and left after a very brief stint. In 2015, Bethany Rogers entered the Love Island villa at just 19 years old, and Emma Jane Woodham – who infamously made headlines for her bedroom antics with Terry Walsh in season two – was also just 19. The youngest winners are Amber Davies and Finn Tapp, who were 20 years old when they won the third and sixth series respectively.

We all know old is not really old when it comes to Love Island contestants, but the eldest ever hopefuls to have appeared on the reality show have been in their early 30s. Jordan Ring (series one), Marcel Somerville (series three) and Paul Knops (series four) were all 31 when they went looking for love in the famous villa, making them the oldest contestants overall to enter through those doors of love. Sophie Gradon from season two was 30 years old, making her one of the oldest women to ever appear on the show. The age of 29 seems to be a common one as the likes of Laura Anderson, Tom Walker, Anna Vakili and Marvin Brooks all appeared at that age. Cara De La Hoyde and Jack Fincham are the oldest winners of all time – they were both 26 years old when they won the second and fourth series respectively. So far in 2022, Davide and Andrew Le Page are the oldest contestants at 27.

"We have an island chat where we can talk amongst the islanders and then Love Island can contact you so any big event in the villa you receive by text. "You keep the phone on you at all times except for charging it, some people are better at it than others because when you’re in there you’re not thinking about your phones. And you can put it down somewhere and forget where it is and spend all day looking for it. "I wasn’t using mine too much I think there are some pictures on it. I think I sent Amber a wink face."
