Read More »Speaking as a teacher, giving them either before or after the recital is perfectly fine. Perhaps giving them at the end, when you and the other students can thank your teacher for his/her hard work would be most effective.
i would say it is rather inappropriate to bring teachers flowers for the simple reason that this is your moment. And most teachers will not need the ego stroke of such an act and have the self esteem to realize that this is your success, you did the work and as much as a teacher may have helped, this moment is yours. Any teacher that actually expects flowers at a recital needs an ego check. i think it is ok to bring a gift and give it after you have left the stage but definitely not flowers. A bottle of wine , a card either way, these are things that really should be given the next time you meet. Just my experience from watching probably hundreds of undergrad and graduate recitals. This is not the teachers time to shine.
