The unforgettable voice and flamboyant stage performances of Freddie Mercury, the lead vocalist of Queen, propelled the British rock band to stardom. Interestingly, not only was Freddie Mercury well-known for his unique voice and style, but also his unusual teeth. In honor of this magnificent musician, we’d like to discuss the reason behind Mercury’s dental alignment. We’ll also talk about a terrific orthodontic option for many patients with misaligned teeth.

A Noteworthy Smile

Freddie Mercury had four extra teeth, also called mesiodens or supernumerary teeth, in his upper jaw. These additional incisors caused overcrowding that pushed forward his front teeth, leading to an overjet. Malocclusion, or when your upper and lower teeth don’t align properly, can lead to a variety of issues, from problems eating to embarrassment about esthetics. Indeed, Mercury was self-conscious of his protruding upper teeth and often covered them up with his lip or hand, and later a mustache. However, Freddy was never ready to get his teeth fixed. Although he could certainly afford it later in his career, Freddie Mercury refused to correct his alignment issue because he believed it contributed to his incredible range. He feared that changing his teeth would negatively affect his singing ability.

Invisalign®

At Toothology, we are experienced in fixing many types of misalignment issues. While more severe circumstances may require surgery, we can often treat bite issues with a crazy little thing called Invisalign. This orthodontic treatment consists of a series of clear removable retainers that gently adjust teeth into proper alignment. You’ll need to wear these virtually invisible aligners for at least 20-22 hours a day, but you remove them when you eat, drink anything other than water, and brush your teeth.

Another Crooked Smile Bites the Dust!

For many people who want straighter teeth without the hassle of traditional metal braces, clear aligner therapy like Invisalign can deliver their dream smile. Here at Toothology Dental, we can help you have a champion smile you’re not only comfortable with, but are proud to show off. To ask our team any questions or to schedule your Invisalign consultation, contact our office today.
