Pirates during the sixteenth century certainly didn’t eat the kind of delicious meal you will find on the Jolly Roger Pirate Ship in Cancun today when you book your ticket for the best pirate show in Cancun! The idea of surf and turf was a dream only very few pirates (including pirate captains) could hope for on their first few days of a long voyage. The first few weeks at sea were the best for pirates where their food supplies remained relatively fresh. During this time, pirates would eat a range of food, including cheese, eggs, vegetables and meat, and enjoy hearty meals on the pirate ship. After a month or so, most of the fresh food supplies would have spoiled and gone rotten, meaning that pirates would have to survive on dried supplies. What is often a surprise to people is to hear how pirates would keep animals on board until such a time as there wasn’t enough food to feed them, at which time they would be eaten by the pirates. Chickens were kept for their eggs and cows would provide milk. When it was difficult to keep the animals alive, they would be slowly eaten one by one. Pirate bone soup was a common delicacy when things got rough and contrary to the myths that the bone soup was made with human bones, the broth would have been made from boiled animal bones, like chicken and cows. Of course, there was always fish and the occasional turtle egg. Dried food, such as beans, pulses and sea biscuits were the main staple on long voyages as well as salted meat and pickled vegetables and fruit. Because the supply of fruit and vegetables lasted such a short amount of time, pirates would frequently suffer from malnutrition caused by lack of vitamin C. Scurvy was therefore common, which saw skin irritations, gum disease and potentially death. Luckily for pirate show guests in Cancun, the Jolly Roger pirate ship is packed full of fresh produce and carefully selected meat and chicken for your cruise along the coastline of Cancun.

Is 18 too old to learn to sing?

It's never too late to start singing! In fact, the human voice continues to mature throughout life, so students of any age can benefit from singing lessons. Plus, singing can be an effective way to keep your mind and body sharp. At School of Rock, our trained vocal instructors teach students all aspects of singing.

Learning to sing is a universally rewarding experience. Many children enjoy singing, even from a very young age, and people of any age can learn to sing, even with little to no prior musical experience. The best age to learn to sing depends less on physical maturity and more on factors like self-motivation, available practice time and the ability to focus.

WHAT IS THE BEST AGE TO START SINGING LESSONS?

Because singing does not depend on the fine motor skills and coordination involved with other instruments, the best age to start singing lessons varies from student to student. However, learning to sing requires regular practice, focus and attention to detail. Students who start singing lessons should be socially mature enough to focus in the lesson room and follow the coaching of their instructor. Children are generally ready for this type of instruction between ages 7 and 9. The human voice continues to mature throughout life, however, so students of any age can benefit from singing lessons.
