Read More »The incessant march to Midnights continued this week with Taylor Swift revealing yet another track title from the upcoming album. Titled ‘Anti-Hero’, it’s the sixth Midnights track to be teasingly unveiled, and it sounds like a very personal one to the singer. “Track three, ‘Anti-Hero’, is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written,” Swift said in a video shared on Monday, October 3rd (see below). “I really don’t think I’ve delved this far into my insecurities in this detail before.” She continued: “I struggle a lot with the idea that my life has become unmanageably sized. Not to sound too dark, but I just struggle with the idea of not feeling like a person — don’t feel bad for me, you don’t need to. “But this song really is a real guided tour through all the things I tend to hate about myself; we all hate things about ourselves.” It just goes to show – you can be the biggest pop star of your generation and still be struggling. ‘Anti-Hero’ follows ‘Maroon’, ‘Midnight Rain’, ‘Question…?’, ‘Vigilante Shit’, and ‘Mastermind’ in being unveiled as title tracks from the upcoming album. “It’s all of those aspects of the things we dislike and like about ourselves that we have to come to terms with if we’re going to be this person,” Swift added about the sixth track. “I like ‘Anti-Hero’ a lot because I think it’s really honest.” Love Pop? Read More »Soprano Soprano: this is the highest singing voice, with the highest tessitura. It is also the most common female voice. Sopranos are given prominent singing roles, and are often the protagonists of the opera. They can sing from the middle C to two octaves higher (that is, an interval of 15 full notes in total).
Some voices are high-pitched. Some voices are low pitched. Some voices have incredible agility. Some voices are rich and heavy. Some voices are difficult to categorise! The spectrum of the human singing voice is very broad. This makes each voice unique, but also makes it difficult to manage for composers. A composer thinks of a voice mostly in three terms: its specific vocal range, its vocal timbre (that is, the colour of the voice, whether it is for instance soft or hard, woody or metallic) and its vocal weight (whether the voice is light or heavy). In the European classical music tradition, systems have been developed to classify the different voice types. Classification is used to associate voices with potential roles: whether hero(ine) or foe, young or old, voices are typified and tend to play always the same kind of character. The most basic system of classification is based on the vocal range of the voice, most specifically the range where the voice is at its most comfortable (its tessitura, which is Italian for ʽtextureʼ). Voices are ranked from high to low. Women’s voices are divided into three groups: soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto. Men’s voices are divided into four groups : countertenor, tenor, baritone, and bass.
