This article is intended for Citrix administrators and technical teams only.

Non-admin users must contact their company’s Help Desk/IT support team and can refer to CTX297149 for more information. This article describes the behavior of Shift+F11 key combination and how to disable or enable the hotkey mapping of the Shift+F11 key combination. For Receiver/Plug-in (Citrix Client) versions 10.214, 10.223, 10.225, 10.230, 11.x, 12.x , see the Additional Resources section.

Background

Shift+F11 keys minimizes an ICA session window for fixed windows and published desktops. Some applications might use this key combination to perform specific functions requiring you to change this key mapping.

Disable or Enable Hotkey Mapping

For Receiver users, import the "icaclient.adm" template into Active Directory and then propagate it to the clients. Using the GPO (policy) option with the "icaclient.adm" template file that comes with the installation or download package, go to the following path to configure the hotkey: Note: For change of legacy 10.1 behavior, you must modify the client configuration settings to change the hotkey mapping of Shift+F11. Caution! Refer to the Disclaimer at the end of this article before using Registry Editor. Edit the registry or distribute a .reg file to set the following registry value:

Value Name: F11

Value: 0 (set to 0 (zero) to disable)

This behavior has been reverted in Receiver/Plug-in (Citrix Client) versions 10.214, 10.223, 10.225, 10.230, 11.x, 12.x so that the default behavior when pressing Shift+F11 no longer minimizes the session; instead, the key sequence is passed to the session. To revert to the previous default behavior as first introduced in Version 10.100 of the client, set the values Hotkey13Shift=Shift and Hotkey13Char=F11 under : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICA ClientEngineLockdown ProfilesAll RegionsLockdownClient EngineHot Keys or in the WFClient section of the "appsrv.ini" or ".ica file". How do you revive a keyboard key?

Fix a Keyboard Key Step 1: Pop Out the Key. Use a flathead screwdriver to get the key out. ... Step 2: Get a Piece of a Straw. Cut off a little more than an inch of a clean plastic straw. ... Step 3: Fold and Insert. ... Step 4: Trim to Fit. ... Step 5: Put Key Back in the Keyboard.

The same thing happened to me, a few months after begging and pleading that my infamously stingy work purchase one (for a believe $100 +/-) for me. It seemed like this horrendous keyboard was dying one letter at a time. On the day that I decided to give it up, it was down at least 13 keys - of what I was aware (c, i, o, u, y, z, ←, /, *, -, insert key, delete key... goodness knows what else)!! I wish MS would see that the MS Natural Ergonomic 4000 keyboard is - without a doubt - a defective unit, and should be recalled. I hope this hack works... I'm dying using a regular keyboard, and I'm too ashamed to ask my work for another one. :(
