In the third verse of Eminem’s (USA, b. Marshall Mathers III) No.1 single “Godzilla”, the rapper squeezes 225 words into one 30-second segment – that’s a rapid 7.5 words per second! “Godzilla” (2020) smashed the record he set as a guest on Nicki Minaj’s “Majesty” (2018), when he spat out 78 words in 12 seconds (6.5 words per second), which in turn eclipsed his performance on the 2013 hit “Rap God” (97 words in 15 seconds; 6.46 words per second). The verse in question begins with the line “Fill ‘em with the venom and eliminate ‘em” (2 min 57 sec into the track) and finishes with the line “I’m not afraid to pull the…” (concluding at 3 min 27 sec). Including the section of verse 3 from the line “Trigger happy, pack heat, but it’s black ink” (from 2 min 45 sec), Eminem spits out 284 words in 42 seconds for an average of 6.76 words per second – faster than “Majesty” and “Rap God”. In total, the 3-min 31-sec “Godzilla” contains 959 words from start to end (an average of 4.54 words per second) – considerably less than the 1,560 words that appear in the 6-min 4-sec “Rap God” (an average of 4.28 words per second), which retains the title for the most words in a hit single. The 12-second rap in Nicki Minaj’s “Majesty”, taken from her 2018 album Queen, starts with the line “You ain’t dealin’ with a fuckin’ featherweight” at 2 min 27 sec. It concludes with “I’ma get a special place” at 2 min 39 sec. “Godzilla” is taken from Eminem’s chart-topping album Music to be Murdered by (2020) and features the late rapper Juice WRLD on the chorus. It debuted at No.1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart on 30 January 2020, and “Slim Shady” completed a UK chart double when the album also debuted at No.1 in the same week – his 9th consecutive studio-album to top the UK chart. The album also includes the hits “Those Kinda Nights” (feat. Ed Sheeran) and “Darkness”. Word count calculated from lyrics on azlyrics.com, track timings taken from Spotify. Web sources are measured differently, but such minor discrepancies don’t alter the record-breaking status of “Godzilla”.

What is a 1 beat note?

Reading Music : Note Value Name (USA) Name (England) Duration Whole Note Semibreve 4 beats Half Note Minim 2 beats Quarter Note Crotchet 1 beat

teoria.com uses cookies. By using our site you agree to the use of cookies. Read our privacy policy for more information. Close Once we understand the concept of measure and beats, we can start reading music. Symbols are used to indicate the duration of a sound. Let’s start by getting to know the symbols with durations of one, two, and four beats: Name (USA) Name (England) Duration Symbol Whole Note Semibreve 4 beats Half Note Minim 2 beats Quarter Note Crotchet 1 beat

Note the relationship of values between the different symbols:

Each whole note (semibreve): is divided into two half notes (minim).

And each half note (minim) is divided into two quarter notes (crotchet) Thus, each symbol will have half the

value of the preceding shape.

Let's see a musical example using these symbols. The vertical lines (or bar lines) separate and group the notes into measures to facilitate reading (we can see three measures in this particular example). You can hear a percussive sound for each beat and a flute playing the written notes. Note how a half note will take the duration of two percussive sounds (two beats), the quarter note will take just one beat and the whole note has a four beats duration:
