RM of BTS said he is an atheist He ended by stating he doesn't believe in God and identifies as an atheist. However, RM has also worn a crucifix pendant around his neck, a common symbol in Christianity. Since that interview, he hasn't publicly confirmed his religious views.
BTS ARMY members know almost everything about their favorite K-pop group, from their zodiac signs to their blood types. But what the BTS members don’t discuss often are their religious beliefs.
Between performing in arenas across the globe, working on new music, launching a video game, and starring in movies and their reality show, In the Soop, the Bangtan Boys likely don’t have much time for anything else. A few members have discussed their spiritual beliefs. Here’s what we know about BTS’ religion.
RM of BTS said he is an atheist
In a 2015 interview with the Korean magazine Hip Hop Playa, the rapper discussed his mixtape and briefly revealed his thoughts on religion. He ended by stating he doesn’t believe in God and identifies as an atheist. However, RM has also worn a crucifix pendant around his neck, a common symbol in Christianity. Since that interview, he hasn’t publicly confirmed his religious views.
V of BTS might be Christian
According to Seventeen, V has never directly commented on his religious views. However, the article states that “some fans think he may consider himself a Christian since he created a playlist on Spotify which featured a Christian worship song from Hillsong. V has also been spotted pointing up in tribute to his late grandmother, which might mean that V considers himself somewhat religious.”
Jungkook attended a Christian high school
This BTS member attended a Christian high school “that holds a Bible-teaching class and religious services for its students once a week,” according to Seventeen. Although Jungkook has not directly commented on his religious beliefs, his upbringing might have influenced his faith.
Suga said he prays
“As a human who is weak but acts strong, I realized once again that I am merely a human being,” Suga tweeted in Korean after a performance in Japan. Although I don’t have a religion, I prayed during that time [in Kobe]. The end has been determined. But even if there was an end, my emotions and my heart do not change.”

Although Jimin has not directly addressed his faith, the singer attended an all-boys Christian school when he was younger. His religious upbringing could influence the performer’s faith today.
Jin of BTS is likely not religious
Of all the BTS members, Jin probably refers to religion the least. Although that doesn’t mean he isn’t spiritual, it could mean he has no religious affiliation.
J-Hope’s religion remains a mystery
One might think that someone with the word “hope” in their stage name must have a religious influence. Although J-Hope has mentioned his faith in himself, he has not publicly revealed his religious views.
However, J-Hope holds his palms together as if praying in the music video for “Outro : Ego,” posted to the Hybe Labels YouTube channel. At the same time, he raps in front of an altar holding statues of the Virgin Mary and Buddha — figures in Christianity and Buddhism, respectively. Though undoubtedly religious symbols, they don’t confirm J-Hope’s beliefs.
BTS was slated to attend the 2022 Grammy Awards in January but canceled after organizers postponed the show until April due to COVID-19 concerns. As of this writing, the K-pop group has yet to reveal whether it will return to the United States for the rescheduled show.
