Have you ever wondered which are the most romantic pieces of classical music? We have, and did the top 10 of them, so you don’t have to search for them. Check them out:

1. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Romeo and Juliet (Fantasy Overture: Love Theme)

This wonderful orchestral work, styled as an overture-fantasy is based on the play with the same name by William Shakespeare. Its most famous part is probably the Love Theme, which is also the most romantic part of this marvelous piece.

2. Gabriel Fauré - Pavane

The Pavane in F-sharp minor, Op. 50 was written in 1887, originally as a piano piece but better known in the orchestral version. Its main theme is among the most well known melodies of the world, and its harmony make it one of the most romantic pieces ever composed.

3. Edward Elgar - Salut d'Amour

Originally written in 1888 for violin and piano, this piece has inspired numerous arrangements for different instrumental combinations. Its mild and tender melody, along with calm and consonant harmonies make Salut d'Amour a colorful and dreamy piece.

4. Claude Debussy - Clair De Lune

Clearly the most famous part of the Suite bergamasque, and probably one of Debussy’s most important pieces, Clair de Lune was named after Paul Verlaine's 1869 poem of the same name. This piece is famous for being featured in several commercials, movies, tv series, etc, especially in romantic scenes.

5. Franz Schubert - Serenade

Written in 1826, this piece features a lovely melody, full of grace and beauty. In the original manuscript of this piece, Schubert himself stated that the piece was supposed to express how “the singer exhorts his lover to make him happy”. The result is a peaceful but emotional piece.

6. Clément Philibert Léo Delibes - Flower Duet

The famous Flower Duet from the opera Lakmé is popularly known as part of numerous soundtracks and tv commercials all over the world. It is a delicate piece, and its calm character makes it one of the most romantic pieces in the world

7.Pietro Mascagni - Cavalleria Rusticana - Intermezzo

This heart-melting piece was composed as the middle part of the 1890 opera Cavalleria Rusticana. The story of this melodrama is about Turiddu, a young man who comes back from the military service to find that his love, Lola married Alfio, a richman of the town.

8. Ludwig Van Beethoven - Fur Elise

Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor "Für Elise" (meaning "For Elise") is among Ludwig Van Beethoven’s most famous compositions and one of the most popular piano pieces in the world. It is not really known who Elise was, but it is believed that is someone who beethoven wanted to marry with. It is clearly a romantic music piece, not only by its backstory, but also because of its character, melody and harmonies.

9. Schumann - Träumerei

This is probably Robert Schumann’s most famous composition, and one of the most famous piano pieces ever composed. It is part of a collection of thirteen pieces called Scenes from Childhood, Opus 15 No 7. Träumerei can be translated as “dreaming”. It is a beautiful, peaceful and nostalgiuos piece.

10. Chopin - Etudes Op. 10

This set of revolutionary studies was composed between 1829 and 1832. Intended for practising specifical piano techniques, these became a must for any concert pianist. They are some of the most challenging and evocative pieces of all the works in concert piano repertoire. Also, these pieces evoke a wide variety of emotions.
