What does easy piano mean?

I have a number of 'easy piano' books and I've come to the conclusion that the tag 'easy piano' just means that it's easier than the original - so the level of the pieces can vary quite widely.

Generally, they are harder than big note piano pieces (no stretches and mostly no jumps) and five finger pieces (for beginners) and easier than PVG (written for piano voice and guitar - and often assumes that all three are participating for the full sound of the piece) and piano solo. Here are a couple of links from SheetMusicPlus that give guidelines for some of these terms:

The first

The second

Note that in the later list, easy piano can be up to intermediate level. This matches up with my personal experience of these pieces. They are mostly early intermediate to intermediate level pieces.

Hope this helps

edit: I had 5 finger and big note backwards from the charts above. Hi redeagle,Unfortunately, easy piano means whatever the composer / arranger / publisher wants it to mean. Note that this is a great chart because it shows which technical difficulties put a piece in each level. This also correlates with the terms used by teachers and in teaching lit pieces: early elementary, elementary, late elementary, early intermediate, etc.Note that in the later list, easy piano can be up to intermediate level.
