Our worship must be a truthful expression that connects us to the Father on a deep spiritual level. Worshiping in spirit and truth requires both our emotions and our knowledge of God. It is neither only about feelings nor only about the intellectual understanding of who God is – it is about both. We worship God with our hearts and with our minds as well. True worship is only possible because of the mediation of Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5) and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives (John 14:15-18). Keep that in mind when you worship God, no matter how you do it. “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” (John 4:23 NKJV)

5. Worship Through Music

When we talk about praise and worship, most Christians often think about worship music. They picture the church building, the worship leader, the band with stringed instruments, and the whole congregation ready to sing praises to the Lord. Our memory often fails us. But we cannot let that be an excuse to dismiss what our Father God has done for us. The Bible tells us what happened when the people of Israel forgot about their past, about all the good things that God had done for them. They ended up drifting away from the Lord. They worshiped idols instead of the one true God. When we fail to remember the steadfast love of the God of the Universe, it is our most tragic loss. So, make it a personal goal to keep track and remember what God has done in your life. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:” (Psalm 103:2 KJV)

7. Worship Through Your Testimony

Look at your life. You will find a lot to say about God’s love, grace, and mercy. Even during hard times, we can find many reasons to praise Him. So, do not be silent about it. Jesus called us to be witnesses of Him no matter where we are (Acts 1:8). A witness tells of what they saw or heard themselves. So tell the truth about what Jesus Christ has done for you to the people you know. Tell them about what you have seen and heard. Let them know how good our God is and everything He has done in your life. “Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness.” (Psalm 150:2 KJV)

8. Worship Through Serving Others

Jesus said that He came to the world not to be served but to serve. He told us to follow His example by serving and loving others as well (Mark 10:44-45). We must not use our gifts from God for our personal gain but in service for those close to us (1 Peter 4:10). 9. Worship Through Your Words

Everything that we say has an impact. There is no doubt that words are powerful. We may bless or curse a person with only our words. We may heal or hurt them in just a moment, depending on what we choose to say. So we need to be intentional and use our words wisely. First and foremost, our words need to bring glory to God (Colossians 3:17). Do your best to use your words to worship the Lord in every way, by saying words of praise to Him or by blessing other people with them in His Holy Name. “Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.” (Psalm 71:8 KJV)

10. Worship Through Marveling at God’s Creation

We learn about the character of God by observing everything He created, the work of His hands. The more we know about the Universe, the more we are in awe of God’s majestic power. No matter if we look at the biggest stars in the sky or the tiniest creatures on Earth, everything shows us how amazing our God is. That includes our moments of worship and our prayers of praise when we use those verses to adore the Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:” (Proverbs 3:1 KJV)

13. Worship Through Meditating on the Bible

We’ve talked about reading, studying, and memorizing the Bible. It is the Word of God, the revelation that He gave us about Himself. But we need to be careful to avoid a shallow approach to our Bible reading time. It is not just about gaining intellectual knowledge. We also need to let it reach our hearts and change our lives. We need to meditate on what we read and study so it can make an impact on the way we think and renew our minds (Romans 12:2). “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2 NKJV)

14. Worship Through Confessing Sins

Sin keeps the sinner away from God (Romans 3:23). Jesus has already provided a solution to the problem of sin: His own blood that was shed on the cross and His own life that was given to pay for all our sins. Even though our sins are paid for and forgiven, we need to confess them. It is for our benefit. We need to acknowledge that we did something that was against the will of God and express our sorrow for it. We also take hold of God’s promise of forgiveness. When we do that, it is a great way to worship the Lord, by believing and trusting His Word, and honoring Jesus’s sacrifice for us. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9 KJV)

15. Worship Through Obedience

True worship implies a willingness to obey God’s Word. When you worship God, you submit to Him humbly and reverently, recognizing that He is the Lord of your life. Obedience is an outcome of that. A true believer obeys the word of God out of love for Him (John 14:15; Matthew 22:36-38). But we need to put our energy and will into it. Obedience doesn’t come easily. We depend upon the help of the Spirit of God to do it. And the more we know and love the Lord, the more we truly want to obey Him.

16. Worship Through Journaling

Our memories of what the good Lord has done for us help us in our praise and worship of God. If we let the good things He has done vanish from our memories, we fail to acknowledge His goodness and be grateful to Him. But you can easily avoid that. Use a journal to record what the Lord has done in your life. Write about the events and what you felt. Write down your prayers and the answers you received. Then, use your journal while you read your devotionals. It will help you remember and inspire you to praise and worship the Lord. “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.” (Psalm 102:18 NKJV)

Money is a sensitive subject for everyone (1 Timothy 6:10). Many people abuse it or are abused by those who have much of it (Proverbs 22:7). But the Lord has called us to serve Him, not money (Matthew 6:24). Money can be a blessing if we don’t allow it to govern our lives. We need to use it wisely and understand that it is God who provides for our needs (Hebrews 13:5). So, using your money to bless your church and people in need is a great way to testify about God’s provision in your life and to show how you trust Him to continue providing for your needs (Philippians 4:19). “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7 NKJV)

18. Worship Through Fellowship and Community in the Church

Everything we do reflects what we believe. People who know that we are believers will often shape their view of God based on what we do more than what we say. Thus, we need to do our best to express our faith through our actions as well as our words. Each life is a series of opportunities to worship God through everything each one of us does. We can show our devotion to God even through mundane daily tasks. And then, when we least expect it, we will impact other people’s lives with our faith. That is a powerful way to witness about God and worship Him through our lives. “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV)

21. Worship by Sharing Your Faith

23. Worship with Humility

Worship implies a reverence and submission to God that is only possible with a humble heart. We need to realize who God is and who we are, and admit our total dependence upon Him. The most important thing in our lives is the moment when we acknowledge how good, gracious, and merciful the Lord is, and we surrender our lives to Him. When we humbly think about so many good things He has done for us, we realize that we are not worthy of any of it. The humbler we are, the deeper we can understand the goodness of God and His love for us. Those understandings bring us to our knees in our worship of God. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” (James 4:10 KJV)

24. Worship with Joy

The book of Psalms has a lot to teach us about praise and worship. The psalmists invite us to join in with expressions such as “make a joyful noise” to the Lord (Psalm 95:1; 98:4,6; 100:1), with “shouts for joy” or “cries of joy” (Psalm 88:1). Those psalms tell us of such a great joy that one cannot be silent about it. That’s the joy that comes from the Lord (Galatians 5:22). In good and hard times, we need to find our joy in Him. That’s how it can always be full of joy and gratitude for what God did for us. “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.” (Philippians 4:4 KJV)

The Lord gives us many reasons to praise Him and invites us to worship Him. But the freedom that He gives us doesn’t mean that we can relate to Him in any way we want. Our worship must reflect the utmost reverence for the Great King in the highest heaven. Knowing who God is also brings us a sense of awe. Can you fathom what it means to create the whole universe? Can you imagine what it is like to know every single molecule that ever existed and that will exist in all creation? It is way beyond our understanding. So, keep that in mind and bring that reverence and awe when you worship the Lord. “Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,” (Hebrews 12:28 ESV)
