It seems the odd phenomenon where there’s an instant increase in attractiveness - has been around for years. The team at School of Popular Music discusses what has been dubbed 'The Musician Effect.' Research from various studies provides evidence that the tendency to find a musician more attractive was stronger among women. This sex was more likely to be receptive to the romantic advances of guitarists compared to non-guitarists, as well as accept a Facebook friend request from a man they didn't know. When the man wasn’t holding a guitar in his photo, only 3% of the women accepted his request, while 28% accepted the request when he held the instrument. So why is musical skill sexy? Why do mate-value ratings generally increase for those playing an instrument in photos? I was looking through reviews and wow, I am shocked its only 13 and up. I was about 15 or 16 when this movie came out. I was SO excited because I LOVE Queen! But then I heard about all that was in it. Good grief! I know Freddie Mercury was gay, but I wasn't expecting what was in this movie. Yes, there are opposite and same sex relationships/kissing. (I can handle it and its not that big a deal to me) if you can handle it, so can your teen. But what got me, was the fact that no one is talking about that really quick and tiny scene in a gay bar. It wasn't the whole focus (its hard to explain) the band was singing Another One Bites The Dust and there was a montage of scenes and clips in the background. There were men inappropriately dancing on each other and I was a little uncomfortable. (and i didn't really appreciate the scenes between Mary and Freddie post romance together either so its not biased by gender or sexuality. I am just EXTREMELY uncomfortable in those types of scenes no matter the gender!!!) Freddie also seems to do drugs, drink a lot, and have frequent affairs. Leading him to AIDS (which is VERY sad) So, with all that has been said, its a GREAT movie and i loved it, but if you don't want your kid/teen to see a steamy bar scene that'll leave the whole room looking awkwardly around, use some caution. That's really the only part i had an issue with besides some post romantical scenes. But it does give us an insight on Mercury's life and the band. They love each other and show friendship. Anyway, i think its a worthwhile watch!
