If you’ve ever come across LUMI Keys online, you may have spotted it on two separate websites: roli.com and playlumi.com. If so, you may be wondering why our illuminated keyboard is sold on different websites, in different styles and with different bundles.

First of all, you should know that the 24-key, MIDI controller sold on both sites is exactly the same. So why are there separate LUMI Keys packages?

We have a proud history of creating instruments and software at ROLI. Because of this history, most ROLI creators and longtime followers are more interested in creating their own music — in composing, producing or performing — than trying to learn piano online. That’s why we decided to tailor the LUMI Keys experience to two different audiences who will likely use this light-up keyboard in vastly different ways. For composers and producers who want to primarily use LUMI Keys as a MIDI controller, we recommend the LUMI Keys Studio Edition bundle and onboarding experience — available from roli.com. For music beginners who want to subscribe to the LUMI mobile app to learn how to play piano, master their favorite songs and pick up keyboard fundamentals, we recommend the LUMI bundle on playlumi.com. But while the bundled software and accessories will vary, a LUMI Keys Studio Edition you buy from roli.com is compatible with the LUMI Music learning app. In the same way, a LUMI Keys 1 you purchase from playlumi.com is compatible with ROLI desktop software, as well as third party DAWs and plugins. You could even buy a LUMI Keys from each website to create a seamless 48 key keyboard — just click them together with LUMI’s DNA connectors. Perfect for those households with musicians and aspiring musicians under one roof! One final note: if you’ve seen any films of LUMI Keys Studio Edition, you may have noticed that it has pitchbend built into every key. This feature is only available in ROLI Studio or MPE compatible software like Equator2, Ableton’s LIVE 11 or Apple’s Logic Pro. It is not available through the LUMI Music mobile app.
