General Information

1. Are Kawai pianos made for Australian conditions?

All Kawai acoustic pianos are made for an international market, including Australia and New Zealand. Our timber seasoning and frame production processes deliver pianos that, when properly maintained, are reliable and durable musical instruments, whether they’re in Alice Springs or Auckland.

2. Can I have my new piano delivered in its box?

Not for acoustic pianos, no. Kawai requires its authorised retailers to unbox and prepare all new acoustic pianos prior to delivery. This is to ensure that the piano has been inspected for damage and has undergone the pre-servicing requirements of the Preparation Checklist, so you can be assured that the piano is in peak condition when you receive it. For digital pianos, it is sometimes easier to have the piano delivered new in its box, but we don’t recommend it except for portable models. The average digital piano weighs 70kg and requires assembly which, while not complicated, involves moving large, heavy objects with some delicacy. It’s also worth remembering that any damage caused during transit or assembly will not be covered under your warranty. Your piano is an investment; it makes sense to protect it from day one. Talk to your retailer about options for professional delivery and assembly.

3. How can I buy spare parts and accessories for my piano?

Accessories like piano covers, caster cups and locking keys are available from your local Kawai authorised retailer. You’ll find information about accessories for grand, upright and digital pianos here. Due to the level of technical skill required to carry out repairs or replacement of parts, Kawai spare parts are not available to the general public. Should you require a spare part, please arrange for your piano technician to contact us using the contact information found here. You should know the model of your piano before you make a request for accessories or spare parts.

4. Is my warranty transferrable?

No, the Kawai manufacturer’s warranty is available to the original retail purchaser only.

5. Where can I find the model or serial number of my piano?

The model and serial number is printed on your warranty card, and may also be printed on the receipt you got from the Kawai retailer when you bought the piano. They are also marked on the piano itself: on an acoustic piano, the model number and serial number are stamped on the frame of the piano. On an upright piano, you will find the model number on the right hand side of the frame, and the serial number is stamped on the frame around the middle of the piano, normally in line with the middle octave of the piano. Grand pianos are similar, with the model number being on the right hand side of the front of the frame, in line with the 7th octave. The serial number can be found just to the left of the model number in most cases. On a digital piano, the model and serial number are printed on the name plate on the underside of the keybed.
