Is a 50 year old piano good?

Most are dead and unsalvageable at fifty years. I would not consider a piano that old. A new, good-quality upright can be had for around $10000 in the US, and a used one that's ten or fifteen years old for less than half that. So stick with relatively young pianos.

Regard the 50 years old..it is har d for me to tell if they were hard used or if they were in garage..i can only be confident to what they tell me..or not? Yes i have expenperinced taht..tried different used U3 and they did not give me same snsation. I thougt it was me, that i am not used to a real piano and not a good performer..when i see the shopman playing they always sound better than when i play.. A good question to ask is whether the hammers are original or if they have been replaced, and hope that they tell the truth. If you find one with original hammers that are not deeply grooved and have not been reshaped (you can tell this from the shape of them and comparing similar pianos) then you have found a lightly played piano. Also look for the keys to be evenly spaced and level, not dipped down in the middle where those keys are played the most. Stand a few feet away from the piano with your eyes level with the keyboard to check this. There are things that can be badly wrong with even a lightly used piano if badly stored so it may be best to get a technician to check your final choice before purchase - but the more you can assess things yourself the easier it is to get down to a favourite. That said my main think is that a 50 years old is old in the spirit and in the soul..considering the piano as a living thing :), and even if it will last 20 years more it will sill be an old entity..it is a strange thing i know and i would like to pass over it as it does not have much sense. Having used for years keyboards, synth and digital pianos, i know that acoustic instruments have a soul, as they don't have. I have a different relation to my guitar and to my bass than to my keyboards, that once the excitment for the new gear, and menu, and knob and wheels finish..there is not a real relation with it alli have seen don't show anything strange at keyboard..they all told me to look the hammers and i looked but it was not helpful to me. All of them sys that i need to be confident in them when buyin gpiano, as it is the only thing that can make me decide...but confidence and trust does not come by nothing and eventually all of them wanbt to sell..Of course, as they say, nowdays with internet review one must be really carefull when selling, and also those shop/artesan i have visited are well known and long historyThat said my main think is that a 50 years old is old in the spirit and in the soul..considering the piano as a living thing :), and even if it will last 20 years more it will sill be an old entity..it is a strange thing i know and i would like to pass over it as it does not have much sense.
