“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God— this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is— his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:1-2 Throughout our day we have moments that we often forget to praise God. We forget that He is always with us and always protecting us. We do not always give him the praise that He deserves. Here are some things to do throughout the day to spend your time more intentionally with God.

Start Your Day With Him

With the advancement in technology, the majority of us have fallen into the routine of checking our phones from the moment that we open our eyes. If you attempt to break this habit and instead use your time by spending it with God, you will grow your relationship with Him. Read your Bible for a few minutes and listen to worship music and thank Him for giving you another day to live. “Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners and purify your hearts, you double-minded. – James 4:8

Pray Intentionally

It is easy to just say a quick meaningless prayer when you feel like it is something that you have to do. If you feel like prayer is an obligation, it will become a chore and will not be something you enjoy or truly mean. He wants to spend time with you and wants to hear from you, so pray intentionally and tell Him the things that you are going through and the things you are thankful for. He has given you life and is deserving of all praise. “The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them.” – Psalm 25:14

Write Down Things You Are Thankful For

Instead of just listing things in your head that you are thankful for, write them down. Put this list where you can see it and where it will be a constant reminder of the good things that God has given you in your life. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” – 1 Chronicles 16:34

As humans, we complain a lot. We complain about any small inconvenience and anything that gets in our way in the slightest. If you are more intentional and notice when you are complaining, take a second to stop and try to reverse that complaint and turn it into a praise, something that you are thankful for. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” – Ephesians 4:29

Enjoy God’s Creation

Whenever you are outside, take the time to notice the beautiful scenery outdoors. Notice God’s creation and everything He has made. He made the earth for us to live on. He cares for every living thing that He created, take the time to appreciate it more and thank Him for His creation. “In His hand are the depths of the earth and the mountain peaks belong to Him. The sea is His, for He made it and His hands formed the dry land.” – Psalm 95:4-5

Love Others

Whenever we are upset with other people, it is hard to love them. Make an intentional effort to love others in every situation and to shine God’s light upon them. Be the positive, godly influence that other people need, especially those who do not know the Lord. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” – 1 John 4:7

Love Yourself

In our world today, self-love has become something that almost everyone seems to struggle with. As college students we have a difficult time taking care of our health both physically and mentally. God loves you so much and does not want you to feel bad about yourself. He made you in His image and wants you to love yourself as much as He loves you. “The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.” – Proverbs 19:8 Grand Canyon University is committed to following the Lord in all circumstances.
