Simply Piano Goes Global!

As part of our mission to enable anyone and everyone to play the piano, Simply Piano is now available in 10 other languages! You can easily switch the language of the app by changing the language of your device in the General settings of the phone or from the settings of the app itself.

Learn with Practice Levels

You asked and we listened! One of the most requested features from our players has been the ability to learn songs at a more gradual and slower pace.

Presenting Practice Levels, step-by-step learning to master complete songs!

In Practice Levels (only available with songs played directly from the Song Library), a song is broken down into easy-to-learn parts making your learning curve a lot less steep. If you happen to make a mistake twice while playing a song, Practice Mode will be activated (indicated by a white metronome in the top right corner) and will significantly slow the tempo down so you can easily learn the notes at a slower pace. Once you feel you’ve mastered it, you can then play the full song without a hitch!

Exciting Times Ahead

Remember, exciting new courses and songs are added on a regular basis.

Don’t waste any more time, check out the latest and greatest additions by downloading Simply Piano today! What is a ghost note on guitar?

Put simply, a ghost note is a percussive hit on the guitar with no pitch. So, when you mute the strings with your fretting hand, and strike them with the plectrum, that is a ghost note.

In this lesson we build on our 16th note strumming skills by starting to add in some ghost notes! These are subtle rhythmical slaps, pops and crunches that bring the groove to life!

Theory: What Are Ghost Notes

Put simply, a ghost note is a percussive hit on the guitar with no pitch. So, when you mute the strings with your fretting hand, and strike them with the plectrum, that is a ghost note. You can take ghost notes to a very advanced style, but in this lesson, we will be integrating simple 16th note strummed ghost notes into our rhythm. Once we have the basics mastered, we can progress. You see all those ‘x’ markers on the tab above? They are ghost notes. You strum the strings shown, but don’t actually fret a chord. To achieve this effect you will mute the strings with your fretting hand.

Tab: Funky Triads with Ghost Notes

We will take the tune we did in the last lesson, and add the ghost note rhythm pattern shown above. Here is the tab that you loop. if you would like to understand more about these chords and rhythm, please see the previous lesson here.

Audio: Full Track

If you would prefer to just dive straight in and play along with the audio tracks, they are here below. If you're really feeling confident, try with the backing track!
