Here’s the deal:

In my opinion, Fender Play does nothing new or exceptional.

All the content can be found on other platforms, and some better premium membership sites for guitar lessons do a much better job in teaching you how to play in my opinion. You can read my full Fender Play review here. But yes, Fender Play does have a free trial option. So this really does let you test it out for yourself, and decide if you like it or not. Keep in mind, it’s relatively new compared to other programs, so it’s fare to say they have a lot of catching up to do.

Here’s How the Free Trial From Fender Play Works

Free trials are great.

I highly recommend them for guitar programs like this. In fact, you can find my top 3 free trials here. With this particular free trial, you will need to put down a credit card to get started. This is standard stuff, however some other trials do allow you to get started with just an email. In fact, I personally recommend people first try Guitar Tricks’ trial for 14 days. Their free trial works with just an email address. You can get a Guitar Tricks free trial by clicking here. With Fender Play, you will have 30 days to use the program, and if you don’t cancel your membership within the first 30 days, you will get charged for the next month. Cancelling is super easy, but if you forget, you will get charged. It’s my understanding that the free trial option works for those who later choose a month by month payment system. So you get 30 days for free, and if you want to continue, you will be charged $19.99 per month. At the time of writing this, they actually had a 50% discount on their rates. Here were the rates I was presented. Keep in mind these are Canadian rates. The rates in the USA are a bit cheaper: I believe that if you opt in to buy a 6 month or 12 month membership, you will not get the free trial. So perhaps it's best to set up the free trial, cancel, and if you really like it, come back and buy a 6 or 12 month membership to save some money. I've heard a few reports where people bought a new Fender guitar, and were offered these free trials. That's great marketing on Fender's part.

Should You Even Consider Trying Fender Play?

I personally like to recommend other guitar learning programs like Guitar Tricks (you can read my full review here). A free trial is free, so you do have nothing to lose, but in my opinion, Guitar Tricks' free trial is worth trying first, because the overall program is just way better in my opinion. But you don't need to take my word for it. Simply test the programs out for yourself, and see if you like them.
