Do love Islanders get dinner?

Though they make their own breakfasts, the Islanders are catered for during lunch and dinner. A catering company sets up a food station outside the villa to provide food for the Islanders and production staff.

Food is a big deal in the Love Island villa. Creating breakfasts for others allows the Islanders to express their love or apologise. Who could forget when Jamie made Camilla an avocado breakfast toast for her birthday? Or Curtis wanting to make everyone a coffee in the morning to avoid cuddling Amy? And the snacks are important too. Montana Brown was known for constantly snacking whilst watching all the drama go down. And this year with the resident Italian stallion, we’ve been able to watch Davide make some incredible looking pasta dishes, with Ekin-Su’s help of course. However, whilst we get hints to what the Islanders eat, we only really see them make midnight snacks or having their morning cereal. Thankfully, over the years many former Islanders have shared all the food secrets from the Love Island villa. They’ve spilled the beans on what they eat at lunch and the takeaways they’re allowed to have at the weekend.

This everything you need to know about the food on Love Island:

They make their own breakfast

Breakfasts are a big part of Love Island. They’re a way to express how you feel about your partner. You can make a cute avocado toast to express your love or not get them an iced coffee to show you’re pissed off. The reason breakfast potentially means so much is because it’s the only meal of the day the Islanders make themselves, aka the only chance they have to show off their culinary skills. The kitchen in the villa is fully stocked with bread, cereals, eggs, avocados and plenty of fruit for their most important meal of the day.

Their other meals are catered

Though they make their own breakfasts, the Islanders are catered for during lunch and dinner. A catering company sets up a food station outside the villa to provide food for the Islanders and production staff. During these meals the boys and girls are separated and they are all banned from talking about what is going on in the villa as it’s off camera. The production crew also often use these meals as a way to tell the Islanders to tidy up, when laundry day is and asking what they want for breakfast the next day, according to former Islander Olivia Attwood. They’ll also use this as a chance to charge up the Islanders’ microphones as they don’t need them whilst off camera. The meals are usually BBQ meats, burgers, ribs, and salads and this year’s Casa Amor boys Samuel Agbiji and Jack Keating raved about the jerk chicken meal they had one day in an interview with Closer.

Vegan food is provided

If Islanders have special food requirements these are catered for. This year’s Islander Afia Tonkmor, who is vegan and allergic to fish and nuts, said she was provided her own vegan meals in special containers which shocked the rest of the Islanders. She said: “Everyone acted like I was diseased in there when I said I was vegan. Everyday it came with this little special container, by itself, with my food allergies as well. It was so awkward. “The food was really good, they catered to me so well. I’m allergic to fish and nuts and they kept it separate.”

They have meat free Monday

The other Islanders may not have liked Afia’s vegan food, but every Monday they have a meat free day. According to chef Ferenc, who caters on the show, they only serve vegetarian or vegan food to the whole crew. He said: “Monday we just do vegetarian and vegan food, so lots of options. Every week, every single week. “We started this last year – and last year the people weren’t really happy with that – but this year they are.”

The food is apparently ‘sh*t’

Whilst some Islanders have raved about the food, a lot of them haven’t been too keen on it. Casa Amor cast member Chyna Mills recently revealed she lost weight during her time on the show, as she found the food “sh*t”. On her Instagram Story she said: “I barely ate in the villa, hence why I lost so much weight. Some nights were alright, I’m sure we had a kebab one night. The lunch was sh*t. “It is sad but I’m getting my appetite back now which is good. The food just wasn’t to my liking some days – I can’t say every day I didn’t eat, but you just couldn’t make things yourself if you didn’t like the food.” And former 2019 Islander Anna Vakili said in a recent interview with Closer the food is “pretty basic”.

There’s a tuck shop

During the evenings we often see the Islanders having plenty of snacks and according to Jay Younger there’s a tuck shop style cupboard at the back of the kitchen. In an interview with Digital Spy, Jay said: “Well, I’m not sure if the viewers know that there is a big cupboard of food behind the kitchen so if you’re really hungry at night all you need to do is knock on that door and ask for what you want and it’s given to you. “Literally whatever food you want it’s on tap there. For me, it was chocolate rice cakes. I absolutely love them in the evenings or bowls of cereal. There’s a big cupboard of food in there so if you want it, it’s right there.”

They’re only allowed one drink a night

In Love Island you hardly ever see the cast go on drunken rants and that’s probably because their alcohol level is monitored. A spokesperson for the show once said: “We provide our islanders with all of the necessary precautionary measures and all alcohol consumption is strictly monitored by our production team.” And former series two Islander Liana Isadora Van-Riel said the cast are only given one or two drinks a night, and this is only ever wine or beer.

It’s takeaways every Saturday

On Saturdays the Islanders are given a treat and allowed to have a takeaway. 2020 Islander Callum Jones told OK! Magazine they would have to vote as a group for what they wanted. He said: “We’d get a choice of what we wanted, whether that was pizza or something like a burger, and then we had to decide as a group what to get. “Luckily everyone was really open about what they wanted and there was never any disagreement over what we should get.” This year the Islanders have had McDonalds and Chinese, Jay Younger said in an interview with Cosmopolitan. McDonald’s seems to be a popular choice over the years, as last year’s Chloe Burrows said they would have it all the time and raved about the choices they could get in Majorca, which included loaded fries.

They have roast dinners on Sunday

Even the Spanish heat can’t stop a bunch of Brits having their Sunday roasts in the villa, and the Islanders are regularly treated to them every week. However, Casa Amor contestants Jack Keating and Samuel Agbiji weren’t impressed with the turkey roast they had. In an interview with Closer, Jack said: “We literally had it as soon as we woke up. It was just a bit too much to eat. I had a couple pieces of turkey and I was ready for bed.” Sam agreed with him and said “The roast wasn’t roasting.” Love Island 2022 continues on ITV2 at 9pm tonight.
