Spotify has bowed to its users' requests and eliminated the limit of 10,000 songs you can save in your music library on the streaming service. Now you can "like" an unlimited number of tracks. Spotify remains the leader in the streaming music competition with 130 million subscribers worldwide, compared to Apple Music's estimated 60 million and Amazon Music's 55 million. But for a long time, Spotify's users – 286 million counting those who use the free version of the service – had been asking to be able to save more songs, one of Spotify's community users posted Tuesday. Previously, users could save only 10,000 items in their Spotify library. When that limit was hit, they got a message saying, "Epic collection my friend. There's no more room in Your Library. To save more, you'll need to remove some songs or albums." More than 12,500 votes had been cast for the feature over the last six years in Spotify's Community Ideas Exchange, according to the post. So Spotify let one of its community "Rock Stars" announce the removal of the cap.

Coronavirus clashes:Masks spark public judgment, ridicule among customers as businesses reopen

Think you are ready for a new router?:First, try these free home Wi-Fi fixes All Spotify users, whether they use the service's free or premium tier, can now like and save as many songs as they choose. The number of songs in a playlist remains at 10,000. Premium users can still download 10,000 songs onto five different devices for offline listening. Any Spotify users still getting a message about the 10,000 song limit will get the software update soon, Spotify says. The move should satisfy Spotify's most loyal users. Three years ago, The Verge summed up the problem about that "Epic collection" message users feared:"That message essentially translates to “You’re using our product too hard, which is bad and untenable for a company aiming to create the one true music service. No collection should be too epic, and a 10,000-song library isn’t too epic for any of Spotify’s major rivals." Even Spotify is excited about the advance. One of its developers tweeted Tuesday that he had been involved with the work. "Very happy to see this finally out," tweeted Felipe Carvalho, a Sweden-based developer for the streaming service. Many Spotify users responded to the tweet expressing thanks for the update. Even a user whose moniker is "adultmaletroll" wash happy.

"THANK YOU! I have been craving this for years," he tweeted.

Believe it or not, the oldest song on Spotify is actually the oldest song in the world. Titled “The Hymn Of Ugarit,” the track is a modern recording by Al-Pha-X of what is the oldest known piece of music ever discovered. The song dates back to 14th century B.C.E. and was discovered on a clay tablet in the 1950s. Obviously this particular version of the song was not recorded 3,400 years ago, but rather in 2008, so it may not be what you’re looking for. With this in mind, we’ve also dug up the oldest recordings on Spotify. The oldest music recording available on Spotify is a French compilation album titled Anthologie De La Chanson Française, which has recordings dating between 1900 and 1920. Singers included on the compilation include Henri Fursy, Lucien Boyer, Ainé Mevisto, Gabriel Montoya, and more. Recordings didn’t exist for very long before 1900, and especially not music recordings. It was a while before people fine-tuned the technology enough to produce the high-quality music recordings we are accustomed with these days. Still, it can be interesting to hear music from a time past, and that’s why we’ve gathered here today. If you’re interested in hearing some even older recordings, albeit not music, Spotify also has a compilation called The Oldest Recorded Voices in History. This compilation includes speeches dating between 1888 and 1912, from people like Robert Browning, Thomas Edison, Florence Nightingale, and more. Stream Al-Pha-X’s recording of “The Hymn of Ugarit” below. Check out the French compilation from the early 1900s below that, and at the bottom see the compilation of old recorded voices. Finally, for the curious, also see our post about the longest song on Spotify.
