Why can’t I learn guitar in one month?

The first thing we need to realize is that you are not going to have the toughness in the tips of your fingers for long, dedicated sessions of learning guitar in that one month. As a more advanced musician I could suggest 6 hour practice time per day leading to 168 hours of dedicated practice under your belt within that one month. Realistically though, your fingers would look and feel like you have been rubbing them up a cheese grater for a couple of hours. Your skin is just too soft. You may be able to muster an hour or 2 per day at a push but would maybe need a break for a day or two to heal and not feel sore. After a few weeks at a total of maybe 15 to 20 hours of play. You could increase practice time to perhaps 2 - 3 hours per day so were realistically only looking at 50 hours of practice time. Learning guitar in 50 hours just can’t be done. But you can make a very good start.

Will learning theory help me learn guitar in a month?

You could try to learn some guitar theory within that month, that would help you understand your instrument a little better. What we need to also consider is sleep and the brains way of sorting and organizing new information. When you first start learning guitar you can easily get burned out. New concepts, new techniques and new motor skills can leave you in a daze where you cannot continue without rest. Cue the sleeping brain. In sleep your brain will organize, and figure out what you have done that day, letting it sink in so that the next day you can stand on the practices and ideas of the day before and learn new things. But with only 30ish nights of sleep for your mind to digest how to play guitar, learning in one month just won’t happen. Your muscle memory will simply… not remember.

What I would consider trying to do in that one month is this:

Learn some basic chords.

Learn some basic scales.

Learn some basic songs which those scales and chords fit into.

Try to begin learning the notes on the fretboard, as well as in your downtime.

That’s about it. Basic, structural strategies about learning guitar.

But if you wanted to continue along the guitar playing journey after this initial month, then I would suggest taking your time with these first steps as this foundation is the most important part of your guitar journey. Without this foundation you may struggle further down the line. Like everything you learn, if the foundation of the subject isn’t fully grasped then there will be problems down the line. For many it is fine not knowing theory or how to play the guitar accurately but here we are talking about learning the whole of guitar in one month.

Conclusion.

If anyone wants to learn guitar properly it needs to be understood that it can never truly be 100% mastered. Trying very hard to learn what you can in one month is an excellent challenge as long as bad habits are not learned and sloppy playing isn’t practised, just for the sake of rushing to the next stage. Learning guitar is a joy and should be tackled as an exciting thing to do whenever you pick up the guitar. So my advice is; have fun, take it steady, don’t worry yourself and enjoy any instrument you are fortunate enough to play.

Have fun, learn and make some awesome music!
