As the current Season 7 of Below Deck Mediterranean got underway, Captain Sandy Yawn explained why longtime crew member Malia White wasn’t among the yachties she welcomed aboard motor yacht Home for the new charter season. “It would have been great to have Malia back, but right now she’s chief officer on another vessel,” Captain Sandy says in the above clip. Even though they didn’t work together in Season 7 of Below Deck Med, Captain Sandy said during the July 11 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she is “still in contact with Malia.” The Below Deck Med boss also added that she would work with Malia again. “She’s awesome,” Captain Sandy said. Captain Sandy and Malia actually ran into each other not too long ago on land while keeping their yachting certifications up to date at Maritime Professional Training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in April. “We were taking a class for our captain’s licensing. I was like, ‘Yeah, I recognize that person,’” Malia said of their reunion in an interview with The Daily Dish in May. “And yeah, we stay in touch quite often.” Malia has definitely kept busy since Season 6 of Below Deck Med as she continues to further her career in the yachting industry. While speaking with The Daily Dish at the NBCUniversal upfront in May, Malia shared that she was about to sit for her officer’s exam. She also confirmed that she and Jake, Lady Michelle’s engineer from last season of Below Deck Med, are still dating. They also worked together on another yacht, along with Below Deck Med Season 6 chief stew Katie Flood. “She’s wild,” Malia said of working with Katie again while speaking to The Daily Dish. “But it’s good. It’s fun to be with her.” Malia also turned to podcasting following last season of Below Deck Med. She released the second season of her podcast, Total Ship Show, earlier this week.
